Pentatonic Scale 五音调式：
When talking about Blues we will have to talk about Pentatonic. Pentatonic is a scale mode that Chinese folk songs often use. The well-known Chinese folk song The Love Song Of Kangding (collected in the collection of Sticks in My Music class.) is a typical pentatonic song. Its scale is not what’s normally known as "do re mi fa sol la ti" seven tones, but only "do re mi suo la" five tones without “fa” and “ti”. The Love Song Of Kangding only involves different combinations of the five notes to complete the entire song melodies. Little Johnny Brown in Bongos Collection is also a pentatonic song. The song You And Me sung on the opening ceremony ofthe Olympic Games in 2008 was also a typical pentatonic song. In addition there are other Chinese folk songs which more or less involve pentatonic scales in the melody such as The Colorful Clouds Chasing The Moon, and The Sky Of The Liberated Area, and so on, teachers can search for auditions.
说到蓝调就不得不说到五音调式。五音调式是中国民歌中经常会用到的一种音阶调式。 我们耳熟能详的《康定情歌》（收录在音乐课《Sticks》选集中）就是一首典型的五音 调式歌曲，其音阶不是我们平常所知道的“哆来咪发嗦拉西”七个音，而是只有“哆来咪嗦 拉”五个音，而没有“发”和“西”两个音。《康定情歌》这首歌只运用了这五个音的不同组 合来完成整首歌的旋律。音乐课《Bongos》选集中的《Little Johnny Brown》也是 一首五音调式的歌曲。中国2008年举行奥运会时开幕式的那首《我和你》也是五音调式 的典型。此外中国也有其他的民歌在旋律中或多或少运用到了五音调式，例如：《彩云 追月》、《解放区的天》等等，教师可自行搜索试听。
Blues Scale 蓝调音阶：
We can understand Blues Scale in this way. Blues Scale is to add in a half note between “re” and “mi”, which is so called Blues Note to embody the characteristic of Blues. In Triangle collection, there is a song named Nothin' Blues, in which there is a Blues Note "A flat" showing the characteristic of the Blues feature of the song. If center has not come to this collection, teachers can also search for the early Blues masters B.B. King, and James Brown’s music to comprehend Blues scale and emotion. The famous singers such as Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Alicia Keys are also representative of blues music. 我们可以这样去理解，蓝调音阶就是在五音调式的“来”和“咪”中间加入一个半音，这个 半音就是能够体现蓝调特点的“蓝调音符”。在音乐课《Triangle》选集中，有一首非常 明显的蓝调音乐就是《Nothin’ Blues》，其中有一个“降A”的音就是展示这首歌曲蓝调 特点的蓝调音符。如果中心还没有上到这本选集，教师也可以自行搜索早期蓝调大 师B.B.King，James Brown等的歌曲，感受蓝调音乐的音阶特点及音乐情感。我们所 熟知的玛丽亚•凯莉，惠特尼•休斯顿、艾丽西亚•凯斯等知名歌手也是蓝调音乐的代表 人物。

The appearance of Blues music undoubtedly has adds in melancholy emotion in the brilliant music world. It also provides a way to people to express their emotion. The extemporaneous playing and singing that Blues music advocates arouses people’s resonance and helps people express their feelings completely. People access to spiritual pleasure in the process of creating music. In addition, Blues music has a significant impact to many music styles. Many artists jazz, folk songs and rock and roll music recorded blues music. In many non-blues music such as pop music, Blues scales can even be found in the melody. In fact in modern pop music, the Blues scales are unique. Sometimes we will hear the blues rhythm occasionally. Sometimes rock or conception dance is accompanied by blues music. This dance has no fixed form, and focuses on the communication, observation, improvisation and body contact between the dancers.
